Uses of Block-T 500mg Tablet

It is used to manage and manage bleeding in conditions such as,

Block-T 500mg Tablet manages bleeding by blocking the plasminogen from binding with fibrin which results in bleeding. As a result, it manages and controls bleeding associated with various conditions.

• Your doctor will prescribe the lowest effective dose for the shortest possible time necessary to relieve your symptoms.
• If taking it for heavy periods, take it on the first day as taking it before or after will not have any benefit.
• Your doctor may monitor your vision regularly while you are taking this medicine.
• Inform your doctor if you have a history of kidney or liver disease.
• Inform your doctor if there is no improvement in your bleeding after using this medicine for three consecutive periods.

Indication of Block-T 500mg Tablet

Block-T 500mg Tablet is indicated for the management of bleeding in various conditions, including:

• Heavy menstrual bleeding in women
• Bleeding inside the digestive system (e.g., inflammatory bowel disease)
• Nosebleeds (epistaxis)
• Hematuria (blood in urine) not caused by kidney parenchyma
• Bleeding control after dental extractions in patients with coagulopathies
• Bleeding after cervix surgery

Pharmacology

Tranexamic acid (trans-4 aminomethyl-cyclohexanecarboxylic acid) is a strong antifibrinolytic agent, effective in inhibiting the activation of plasminogen to plasmin, which is essential for clot breakdown. It acts by preventing the binding of plasminogen to fibrin, thereby inhibiting fibrinolysis. Tranexamic acid is more effective and long-lasting than conventional hemostatic agents due to its slower excretion via the renal route and higher potency. It does not interfere with normal clotting processes and has low acute and chronic toxicity.

Dosage & Administration of Block-T 500mg Tablet

Adult Dose

Oral Administration:

• Short-term management of hemorrhage: 1-1.5 g or 15-25 mg/kg, taken twice (bid) or three times daily (tid).
• Management of hereditary angioedema: 1-1.5 g, taken twice (bid) or three times daily (tid).

Child Dose

Oral Administration:

• Short-term management of hemorrhage: 25 mg/kg, taken twice (bid) or three times daily (tid).
• Management of hereditary angioedema: 25 mg/kg, taken twice (bid) or three times daily (tid).

Renal Dose Adjustments

Renal Impairment:

• Serum creatinine 120-250 micromol/l: 15 mg/kg twice daily.
• Serum creatinine 250-500 micromol/l: 15 mg/kg once daily.
• Serum creatinine >500 micromol/l: 7.5 mg/kg once daily or 15 mg/kg once every 48 hours.

Interaction

Block-T 500mg Tablet may interact with:

• Antibiotics (e.g., clarithromycin, rifampin, erythromycin)
• Anti-HIV drugs (e.g., indinavir, nelfinavir, ritonavir)
• Antifungals (e.g., itraconazole, ketoconazole)
• Antidepressants (e.g., nefazodone)
• Muscle relaxants (e.g., atracurium, cisatracurium, doxacurium, etc.)

Contraindications

Block-T 500mg Tablet is contraindicated in patients with:

• Blood clotting disorders or consumption coagulopathy
• Kidney disease
• Seizure disorders
• Irregular menstrual cycles
• Acquired disturbances of color vision
• Venous or arterial thrombosis
• Active thromboembolic diseases such as deep vein thrombosis, pulmonary embolism, and cerebral thrombosis
• Subarachnoid hemorrhage
• Blood in urine during menstrual periods

Pregnancy & Lactation

• Avoid during pregnancy due to unknown transplacental effects.
• Tranexamic acid passes into breast milk in low concentrations, making antifibrinolytic effects in infants unlikely.

Precautions & Warnings

Before taking Block-T 500mg Tablet, inform your doctor if you have or have had:

• Changes in normal bleeding patterns
• Family history of endometrial cancer
• Abnormal bleeding between periods
• Bleeding during or after sexual intercourse
• Premenstrual pain
• Lower abdominal pain
• Bleeding after menopause
• Risk factors for blood clots (e.g., diabetes, obesity, polycystic ovary syndrome)
